UnidosUS: Texas Ruling on DACA, a Welcome but Temporary Salve

It’s time for Republican Leadership to Deliver on DREAM

September 4, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC—UnidosUS (formerly NCLR) issued the following statement following an unexpected court ruling by a federal district court judge in Texas on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

“We are pleased with the court ruling out of Texas, but mindful that DREAMers are not out of the woods yet. This decision—like the prior rulings by three federal judges—is an appropriate, but temporary, reprieve.

This decision is a testament to the far-reaching power and impact of DACA – particularly for the hundreds of thousands of hardworking individuals whose lives depend on it, and whose contributions strengthen our country. Today’s decision speaks volumes about President Trump’s callous, capricious and arbitrary decision to end DACA in the first place.

It’s time for Congress to get serious about passing a permanent legislative fix. The American public overwhelmingly support it. Our DREAMers and their families have earned it. Republican leadership needs to stop blocking it,” said Clarissa Martinez de Castro, Deputy Vice President of Policy and Advocacy at UnidosUS.
