UnidosUS Mourns Passing of Affiliate Leader Rosa Maria Plasencia

October 11, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC— It is with great and deep sadness that UnidosUS shares the news of the death of Rosa Maria Plasencia, president and CEO of UnidosUS Affiliate Amigos for Kids in Miami, Florida. UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía released the following statement on Rosa Maria Plasencia’s passing:

“Rosa Maria had a passionate commitment to protecting children and preventing child abuse. She was a fierce advocate for children, always looking for ways to support and protect the families she served and be their champion as they faced daunting circumstances.

“Rosa Maria was one of our most active Affiliate leaders, always looking for opportunities to educate, fight for her kids and challenge us to consider different perspectives.

“Just two weeks ago, Rosa Maria joined our Affiliate Convening in Tampa, actively engaging in all of our sessions with her trademark smile and passion. With her energy and enthusiasm, Rosa Maria was committed to making the UnidosUS Affiliate Network a strong and vibrant force to make the lives of our families better.

“We all mourn the tremendous loss she leaves and send our deepest sympathies to her family—especially to her cousin, former UnidosUS Board Chair Jorge Plasencia—her community, her state and our UnidosUS familia.”
