WASHINGTON, D.C.—On Saturday, June 4, 2016, NCLR (National Council of La Raza) will be joined by salsa singing sensation Frankie Negrón at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando’s Expo. NCLR kicked off its Florida voter registration campaign last March, focusing on getting eligible Hispanics in Central and South Florida to register in time for the upcoming elections in November.

Florida is home to the nation’s third-largest Hispanic population and by 2028, it is projected that minorities in the state will become the majority population. The Florida Division of Elections’ most recent numbers indicate that almost 1.8 million Latinos are registered to vote in the state, representing almost 15 percent of Florida’s 12 million active registered voters. While the numbers are significant, Latinos are poised to have an even greater influence in electoral outcomes as 2.6 million Latinos are eligible in the state. This number is certain to rise due to the influx of Puerto Ricans to the mainland United States, particularly Central Florida.

NCLR’s canvassers will provide on-site voter registration assistance for eligible Latinos from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Frankie Negrón, who is set to perform during the Expo, will be available for autographs and interviews at the NCLR booth from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. NCLR civic engagement staff will be available for interviews regarding the Latino vote and NCLR’s efforts in the state and nationally.

To RSVP for the event or for additional information, please contact Camila Gallardo at cgallardo@nclr.org or (305) 215-4259.
