U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Sylvia Mathews Burwell addresses Monday Luncheon attendees; U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek H. Murthy leads a town hall on public health


ORLANDO, Fla.—Monday, July 25 is the last full day of the 2016 NCLR Annual Conference and National Latino Family Expo®, and the program continues to deliver an exciting lineup of speakers and events.

Wilson Cruz, actor, producer and activist will be featured at the Monday Breakfast, and U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Sylvia Mathews Burwell will give remarks at the Monday Luncheon. Also notable is Monday’s town hall, featuring U.S. Surgeon General Vivek H. Murthy in a conversation about the Zika virus and other public health challenges faced by the Latino community.

Events will be held at the Orange County Convention Center, West Halls E and F. Press registration is free, and a full list of events and workshops is available online.

Wilson Cruz, actor, producer and activist, will be the featured speaker at the Monday Breakfast. The breakfast will also include a conversation on youth empowerment and civic engagement.

NCLR President and CEO Janet Murguía will introduce U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Sylvia Mathews Burwell, who will speak to attendees about new challenges in public health that affect the Latino community.

Featuring U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek H. Murthy, and award-winning journalist María Celeste Arrarás from Noticiero Telemundo, this town hall will focus on global public health challenges, and the best ways to ensure that Latino families and children can lead healthier lives in healthy communities.

Join us for dinner to celebrate the accomplishments of our awards winners. This year’s award recipients are: Hispanic Unity Florida, Inc. for Affiliate of the Year; Sylvia Mendez for the Graciela Olvarez La Raza Award; María Celeste Arrarás for the Ruben Salazar Award for Communications; Dr. Richard Izquierdo for the Maclovio Barraza Award for Leadership; Orlando Cruz for the Roberto Clemente Award for Sports Excellence; and Wells Fargo for the Raul Yzaguirre President’s Award.
