WASHINGTON, DC— Today, UnidosUS Board Chair Luis Granados announced that UnidosUS President and CEO Janet Murguía will take a 16-week sabbatical from October 1, 2022 to February 1, 2023. Murguía has named Sonia M. Pérez, Chief Operating Officer, as the Acting CEO during the sabbatical period.

“I am deeply grateful that the Board of Directors has approved this tremendous opportunity for me after 17 years as head of UnidosUS. I am looking forward to the chance to rest, reflect, and restore during my sabbatical,” Murguía said. “I am fully aware that I am in the fortunate position to take this time away because of the strong and dedicated commitment of the incredible team we have at UnidosUS. I believe this is a golden opportunity for the organization to allow others to step into higher-level roles and bring new perspectives to the execution of our strategy.”

“I am excited to announce that Sonia M. Pérez, a seasoned leader who has been with UnidosUS for more than 30 years, will serve as Acting CEO. Sonia and I have been working closely over the last several weeks to outline how we will continue to execute our major areas of work and I have full confidence that she will ensure that UnidosUS’s mission is carried out while I am away,” Murguía added.
