Latino Jobs Report Latino Unemployment Rate Remains High at 14.5%
The June Latino jobs report highlights the impact of coronavirus related job and income losses on Latino’s renters and homeowners. Latino’s are overrepresented in low-wage sectors, where employees were among the first to have their hours or wages cut in response to the crisis. With the additional unemployment assistance, eviction moratoriums, and foreclosure protections from the government expiring in July, many Latino’s will face housing insecurity as a result of this income loss.
While Latinos saw a decrease in unemployment in June, they remain impacted by underemployment, limited hours, and slow to recovery industries. The sudden economic shift has exacerbated housing insecurities for Latinos, who were already more susceptible to eviction and high rent burdens before COVID-19.
