Latino Jobs Report: Latino Unemployment Down Slightly to 6.4%

Fact Sheet

The August 2021 jobs report showed that the economy added 235,000 jobs, vastly missing expectations.

In addition, the hospitality and leisure industry that contributed much of the job growth in the last six months hit a standstill potentially due to the rising cases of COVID-19 driven by the Delta variant. Concurrently, federal support for expanded unemployment insurance ended this past Monday, September 6.

Latino unemployment is down slightly to 6.4%. However, overall unemployment remains far higher than the pre-pandemic levels in February 2020 when unemployment for Latinos was at 4.4%.
