Supporting People with DACA and Boosting Our Economic Recovery by Extending Access to Affordable Health Care

Fact Sheet

The Biden administration should ensure people with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) have access to affordable health insurance.

There are currently more than 600,000 young people – primarily Latinos – who can live and work legally in the United States because they have an active status under DACA. Eighty-nine percent of people with DACA have jobs, and more than one-third are essential workers. Yet only half have comprehensive health insurance because they are excluded from eligibility for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplaces. This report identifies the current gaps in access to health care for people with DACA. It also urges the Biden administration to extend eligibility for government insurance programs so that people with DACA have access to affordable health care, especially given the urgent health care needs created by the pandemic.
