UnidosUS and Hispanic Federation Joint Letter Supporting Healthier Food Options in WIC

UnidosUS and the Hispanic Federation write Tom Vilsack, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, urging USDA to revise the food package for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) to incorporate the recommendations of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

The letter focuses on the recommendation that all WIC breakfast cereals should meet a minimum standard for whole grain richness, explaining why implementing that recommendation could make a big difference combatting high rates of diabetes, obesity, and other food-related chronic diseases in Hispanic communities.
